If you can’t make it to your favorite college football team’s latest home game, or you aren’t able to travel away to see your alma mater, there is no need to worry. Just because you can’t attend a game in person or you took that high-paying job across the country, it doesn’t mean you will be alone the next time your school takes to the gridiron.
So, get out of your house or apartment, and stop screaming at your flat screen TV. These bars are the best places to go to grab some food, beer and college football action for your favorite team.
SEC alumni and fans
New York City
New York City has possibly the best selection of bars for SEC alumni to watch football and drink when your team is winning – or losing.
Georgia Bulldog fans take over the Big Apple’s American Whiskey bar on gameday. The two-story bar is always filled with red clad Georgia fans on gamedays during the fall. Auburn fans can venture over to St. Pat’s Bar & Grill for food and football. Meanwhile in-state rivals, Alabama’s, supporters find refuge in The Ainsworth. With 35 TVs, you won’t miss a minute of the ‘Bama action in NYC.
In Los Angeles, SEC football fans can experience more of the same variety they get in NYC. Tennessee alumni frequent Q’s Billiard Club, and its neighborhood bar atmosphere make it the perfect La-La destination for Vols fans. Tennessee’s SEC rivals South Carolina also make use of Q’s on gameday. The two sets of fans can create quite the atmosphere when the two teams go head-to-head.
Dallas is also home to some great alumni bars for SEC graduates. Alabama fans can put on their jerseys and stroll into Big Al’s McKinney Avenue Tavern with fellow fans. Stan’s Blue Note in Dallas is the official Florida Gators gameday bar. Not only can alumni watch Gators football, but they can enjoy locally crafted, micro beers.
ACC alumni and fans
Atlanta maybe home to Georgia Tech, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t bars that cater to the fans of the conference’s other teams. Florida State fans in Hot-Lanta can descend on the Republic Social House and get their version of the tomahawk chop going. Reigning national champions, Clemson, has a great venue for fans to drink at, the Deadwood Saloon. Louisville’s alum in Atlanta can belly up to the bar at Taco Mac Sports Grill. It is the perfect place to go during the Louisville basketball team’s offseason.
New York City
In NYC, Florida State Seminole alum watch their team play at the Ainsworth. However, some fans prefer to head to the Three Monkeys, rather than share their space with Alabama fans. Miami has fans and alumni from all over the country, and many head north to NYC after they finish school. Therefore, fans of the ‘Canes can watch the ‘U’ at Brother Jimmy’s.
Of course, you can’t forget Los Angeles, and Miami faithful in the City of Angels frequent Barney’s Beanery. They aren’t the only ones as Pittsburgh alum use the bar for their watch parties, too. Clemson and North Carolina fans also share a bar as the two sets of supporters eat, drink and watch football at The Parlor.
PAC-12 alumni and fans
Los Angeles is the epicenter of the PAC-12, and the city is full of great fan and alumni bars. Fans of Arizona and Arizona State can watch their teams from the comforts of Barney’s Beanery. They are often joined by Colorado and Utah supporters who descend on the bar as well. USC’s diehard alum always head to Tom’s Urban on Gameday to watch their Trojans take on the best in college football.
New York City
In NYC, USC fans can see the Trojans every Saturday at Pennsylvania 6. Their city rival’s alum head to Atwood Kitchen & Bar. John Sullivan’s is the official Arizona State alumni bar. Sun Devils’ fans can get a cold beer and hot meal every gameday as they watch the team in PAC-12 play.
Big 12 alumni and fans
New York City
Big 12 alumni and fans in NYC have a number of great bars to watch football. Oklahoma State fans have the perfectly named Stillwater Bar & Grill to watch the Cowboys at. Their in-state rival Sooners can be watched from the Mad Hatter. Stout is the NYC watering hole for Texas Longhorn alum, and supporters can sit down with a tall beer in this authentic Irish pub.
Dallas is the heart of Big 12 country, and OSU fans and alumni can find orange and black brethren at Varsity Tavern. The Longhorns’ faithful flock to the Social House Addison and the Social House Uptown. TCU alum in the Dallas area head to the British Beverage Company on gameday for a full-on experience of football, food and drinks.
Big 10 alumni and fans
Chicago is Big 10 country, and alumni can find bars throughout the Windy City featuring their alma mater’s football games. Wicker Park is Hawkeye territory, and Iowa fans drink at the Boundary Tavern & Grille. Michigan fans get their gameday drink on at Diag Bar & Grill. If you aren’t wearing blue and yellow, don’t bother showing up. Meanwhile, Kroll’s South Loop is the home of Wisconsin and Woodie’s Flat is where all Ohio State Buckeye fans go.
New York City
Big 10 alumni and fans in NYC won’t ever miss the chance to see their school amongst fellow fans. Penn State has two great bars for alum and they can watch the big game at either Proper West or Brother Jimmy’s. The next time Michigan fans want to see the Wolverines beat OSU, they can do so at Barleycorn, Professor Thom’s or The Montrose. Meanwhile, OSU faithful can belly up at the Iron Bar. Wisconsin fans have two options on gameday with the Mad River and The Grayson welcoming all Badger alum and fans in their doors.
No matter which big city you or any other alumni are headed to, there are great bars across the country for college football action. You don’t have to watch the game alone, so grab your jersey and a cold beer with some like-minded friends.
